Sedubai: February 2009 Archives

This weekend was a good weekend.
I could focus on fixing the old issues on Sedubai. many of the websites I used to crawl have been changed in style and format. So I fixed some of them again.
But instead of fixing old crawler I have to index new property lists. I promiss myself next weekend I'll do so.

The search page, the text box and drop down menus were just a mess. I don't know why I thought they work fine.
I fixed the price issue. In the text box if you type 2000 AED or AED 2000 still it will find it. it was just one way.

Dropdown lists are generating from database now.
The dictionary to check the spelling of search term will function better now.
Buy/Rent option is now added to the whole online and server side.

on the server side, now I can manage the different forms of the same thing easily.!!!
for example: JBR=Jumeirah Beach Residence= ....

I didn't have Type in the search process although I had it everywhere, Ouch! now fixed.

Now when you change something in the dropdown lists, it will automaticaly affect the search term.

What else?!

Things to do:

• Look and feel of the site, I don't like it.
• Still it doesn't query the location properly
• Buy / Rent from user still unrecognizable
• I think price has some problems too
• Should think about "million" entry too
• I have to consider unrecognizable keyword as a seperate text and use them in query
• More work on the administrative side
• And more sites to crawl

How to make money out of it

London, 4 in the morning.

I've got the pattern analyser working again. I've tested betterhomes website and it could find the pattern of property list.

And I have found a new trick to list Ajax orianted listings. I used to love ajax but cracking deep into it is not as easy as I thought.

So I simply disable Java in my browser and wait to see what comes up. If there is a version for not ajax browsers then fine, if not then I just do list that real estate in my index.

Now, let's find more and more websites....
It's weekend tomorrow. I hope I get to somewhere good.

I must keep it simple and fun.

Somehow everything is settled down here in London.
Still haven't got my super computer from Dubai and I just work on my two laptops.
Somehow I'm happy with my websites, except the Sedubai project which has great future but needs alot more work to be done.

I was just checking the crawler. out of 8 websites i used to crawl just 2 of them are working. the rest are either offline or changed the format of their websites.
I've got to get this up and running.

I have pretty amazing ideas for it.
